Attesting to its origins, known to be the home of the Amazons, according to Ancient Greek mythology, Project Themiscyra aims to be an incubating phase where each participant will reach their full potential, guided by leading experts and a nodal point for future leaders.

The story behind the name

According to mythology, Themyscira is an isolated island in the Mediterranean Sea that was created by Zeus to serve as a home and sanctuary to the Amazons. It is also the birthplace of Zeus’ demigoddess, daughter Diana. Also known as Paradise Island, Themyscira was home to female warriors known as the Amazons.

The island that mythology is based on actually exists and used to be part of Ancient Greece. According to NASA, Themyscira, also spelled Themiscyra, was an ancient Greek town on the Themyscira plain located near the mouth of the modern Terme River, which is now part of modern-day Turkey. The Terme River is located in central and northern Turkey and empties into the Black Sea. The civilization of ancient Greece extended from the 12th to the 9th century B.C. to the end of antiquity in 600 A.D.
